Atlanta creator and star Donald Glover revealed that the critically acclaimed FX series will likely release Season 3 in early 2022.
Aired on FX in 2016 in the United States, and available on Disney +, the Atlanta series began by presenting viewers with Earnest “Earn” Marks (Donald Glover) and his cousin Alfred Miles (Brian Tyree Henry), better known as rapper name Paper Boi. The duo finds themselves in memorable and sometimes inexplicable situations as they attempt to succeed in the rap world. The series also stars Zazie Beetz and Lakeith Stanfield, who play Vanessa and Darius, respectively.
Atlanta season 3 was quickly announced as early as June 2018, following the positive reception of the second season of the comedy-drama. A renewal for Season 4 was then announced in August. Filming for both seasons was scheduled to begin in early 2020, with a scheduled release in January 2021, but production has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after a long delay, Donald Glover recently shared a photo from the Atlanta set to celebrate the start of production on the long-awaited third season. Now, thanks to new comments from Donald Glover, we have a better idea of when the hit series might return.
While not entirely certain, the actor has indicated that Atlanta season 3 will likely air in early 2022. Below is a brief audio clip from Donald Glover mentioning the series.

This latest news is consistent with the fact that the next seasons in Atlanta will be partially filmed in Europe. Reports have indicated that filming will begin in London before continuing in Amsterdam and Paris. This change of venue was established in the season 2 finale of Atlanta, which concluded with a deal between Earn and Alfred, about to embark on a European tour. Even though there are a few developments that come back throughout the series, including the evolution of Earn and Vanessa’s relationship and Alfred’s struggles with stardom, the series is much better known for its approach. episodic and autonomous from the narrative. This has led to some standout episodes, from “Teddy Perkins” to “Woods,” indicating that the show will have no trouble picking up where it left off.
It’s also worth noting that FX’s drama series isn’t the only popular title set to return in 2022. Better Call Saul’s final season will begin early next year. And, while this has not been confirmed, Stranger Things Season 4 may air in 2022 as well. All of this news, taken together, suggests that the coming year will be an important year for television after COVID-19 delays caused unexpected changes to carefully planned programming. As for the highly anticipated series that will make a comeback, maybe Atlanta will be the first to come out.
In the meantime, you can (rewatch the first two seasons of Atlanta streaming on Disney +.
