BLACK LIGHTNING SEASON 4 END EXPLANATION
Towards the end of the Black Lightning series, Tobias and Jefferson face off one last time, the two fightings with all they have. Despite Tobias’s arrogance, the supervillain falls from a window and is impaled in the chest. Although Black Lightning tries to help him, Tobias, like his sister Tori who died in the first season, refuses to be saved by the hero of Freeland.
Trying to take him down, Jefferson blocks his guns and detonates Tobias one last time, ending the terror of the crime boss. When Tobias dies at the end of Black Lightning Season 4, he ages rapidly, the effects of his Youth Serum wearing off for good.
Despite Jennifer Pierce’s major overhaul in the Arrowverse. The end of Season 4 of Black Lightning came with a huge twist. For several episodes, there were numerous clues that something was wrong with JJ, pretending to be Jennifer but with a new face. As many suspected, Laura Karuki was not replacing China Ann McClain.
But instead played a different character with Jennifer’s memories and DNA. At the end of Season 4 of Black Lightning, JJ attempts to absorb more energy from the ionosphere, which backfires. While she’s doing so, the original Jennifer, who had been stuck in JJ’s thoughts the whole time, reappears. JJ is actually a part of the glaze, aka the ionosphere, that has witnessed Jennifer’s constant travels.
JJ not only despised her because she could come and go as she pleased. But she was jealous that Jennifer had both powers and a physical body. Despite JJ’s effort to kill Jennifer in the Black Lightning series finale, Lightning defeats her and restores Jennifer’s life.
KHAIL & PAINKILLER
Although Painkiller only had one scene in the Black Lightning series finale, it was crucial and eliminated an important plot point. The reason Khalil couldn’t be in Freeland was the execution order Painkiller had given to the Pierce family. To eliminate him once and for all, he erases all of Khalil’s memories of the Pierces, including Jennifer.
Khalil accepts T.C.’s solution because he wakes up not remembering the Pierces. When T.C. tries to notify Jennifer at the end of Black Lightning Season 4, she asks him if it can wait, not wanting to deal with anything major just yet. This foreshadows T.C. will reveal to Jennifer, offscreen, what happened to Khalil.
While Thunder, Lightning, and Grace guard the streets of Freeland, the Arrowverse could see Black Lightning elsewhere, notably in The Flash. It’s bittersweet that Black Lightning Season 4 is the last because there were still so many more stories to tell.
