Good news for Good Doctor fans. The medical fiction with Freddie Highmore, broadcast in France on TF1, has been renewed for a season 5 by ABC. The ABC channel, in charge of broadcasting the series across the Atlantic, has secured its future until 2022, as the new season will air next fall and until the spring of the following year. The official number of episodes has yet to be confirmed, but it can be expected to be around 20, similar to seasons 3 and 4.
At the heart of the story in Season 4 of Good Doctor, there is one topic that garners a lot of attention from fans around the world. The future parenthood of Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) has been touched upon in later episodes, and after learning that the baby will be a girl, we’ll continue to see how the plot unfolds in future episodes. The renewal of Good Doctor season 5 could mean, unless the storylines take another direction, that we will meet the daughter of the most brilliant doctor of St. Bonaventure in the next episode.
ABC’s decision to renew the series for a fifth season was not a difficult one, as it is currently the channel’s third highest-rated original drama, behind Grey’s Anatomy and its spin-off, Station 19.
In the final episodes of Good Doctor, Shaun Murphy is in his fourth year of residency as a physician at St. Bonaventure Hospital in San José and his relationship with Lea is the backbone of the season.
If there is no change, Antonia Thomas (Claire Browne), Hill Harper (Marcus Andrews), Richard Schiff (Aaron Glassman), Christina Chang (Audrey Lim), Fiona Gubelmann (Morgan Reznick), and Will Yun Lee ( Alex Park) are set to reprise their roles in Season 5 as well.
