FIND OUT IF MODOK ON DISNEY PLUS IS NOW IN THE MCU! WILL YOU SEE IT SOON IN THE CINEMA?
MODOK has just arrived on Disney Plus Star! If you want to know if MODOK is now part of the MCU, read on! When Robert Downey Jr brought Iron Man to life onscreen, no one could have predicted how popular the Marvel Shared Universe would become. Most importantly, no one could have predicted that a big-brained sociopath like MODOK would end up starring in his own Disney + series.
The creepy villain isn’t exactly on the Evil A-list, which the show itself scoffs at. But ignoring MODOK in favor of other Marvel series would be a mistake. With a star-studded cast including Aimee Garcia, Melissa Fumero, and Patton Oswalt, MODOK is the absurd sitcom Marvel needs right now. So is MODOK part of the MCU?
DOES MODOK BELONG TO THE MCU?
The term “canon” means that a story takes place in the same universe as all the others and that its events can have a lasting impact on the overall narrative of a shared universe. In essence, canon stories will continue while non-canon stories often will not.
But MODOK, Marvel Television’s new animated series on Disney Plus, is not part of the MCU. Jordan Blum has confirmed that the series takes place in its universe. “Marvel has some kind of database of all the universes in the multiverse, and there’s a guy who looks after it and lets me choose the numbering of our universe,” he said. My son’s birthday is December 26th, so we were in the Marvel Multiverse, which is fantastic. MODOK appears to be set on Earth-1226, not Earth-616 (as portrayed in the comics) or Earth-199999 (the MCU).
A series like MODOK can thrive precisely because it doesn’t have a lasting impact on a shared universe. This gives the writers enormous creative freedom, and they can bring infamous characters like Iron Man and Thor without having to worry about how their series fits into the overall continuity. A story does not count because of its place in other movies and TV series, but rather because of its quality and the effectiveness of the characters.
Although Patton Oswalt is interested in MODOK’s role in live-action in the MCU. This is unlikely to happen anytime soon. In the past, Marvel Studios had a habit of passing characters on to Marvel Television only when they had no interest in developing them.
