Uhtred of Bebbanburg now has only one season left to fulfill its destiny: Netflix has announced that there will be no Season 6 in The Last Kingdom and that the fifth, filming in Hungary, will be the last.
Launched in October 2015 on BBC Two before Netflix became its sole broadcaster in season 3, The Last Kingdom brings to screen the novels of Bernard Cornwell’s literary series “The Saxon Chronicles”. The story, therefore, tells us of the adventures of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), the orphan son of a noble Saxon who was kidnapped by the Vikings and raised as one of them.
Season 5 of The Last Kingdom will therefore follow Uhtred in charge of training Aethelstan, the first son of King Edward, to make him a warrior. Uthred also has his ambitions, but to achieve his destiny, he will have to face his greatest enemy and experience his greatest tragedies.
This season also brings to screen the novels Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer, the ninth and tenth installments. They are not the last of the saga of Bernard Cornwell which includes 13.
The cast of this season 5 of The Last Kingdom also welcomes Patrick Robinson (Mount Pleasant) in the skin of Father Benedict, a religious man with a troubled past; Sonya Cassidy (Humans) as Eadgifu, a Saxon who arrives in Winchester; and Harry Gilby (Tolkien) who plays Aethelstan.
Alexander Dreymon will also make his directorial debut in this final season of The Last Kingdom, while Andy Hay (Lucky Man), Paul Wilmshurst (Strike Back), Anthony Philipson (Our Girl), and Jon East (Pennyworth) will also direct. episodes.
