The third season ended at the end of June with 13 episodes. As the title suggests, “Fruits Basket: The Final” concludes Tooru’s story, at least for now. In a video celebrating the final episode of Season 3 of Fruits Basket, it was revealed that a project revolving around Tooru’s parents, titled “Kyouko to Katsuya no Monogatari”, is currently in development.
This means that the project is expected to adopt the subplot from Volume 16 of the original manga series, explaining why this part was omitted from the 2019 anime. However, no official announcement has yet been made regarding the format or the duration of the upcoming project. Kyouko to Katsuya no Monogatari can be considered as Season 4 of Fruits Basket, is expected to have its release date set in 2022.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE FOLLOWING?
In the season finale, Tooru and Kyou leave to start their life together in another town. Machi receives a key from Yuki of his residence. Hatori asks Mayuko to go on vacation with him to Okinawa, and Shigure moves in with Akito. Life goes on for the Soumas and the other characters, as each sets out on their journey. The series ends by showing Tooru and Kyo, much older, walking together, holding hands.
In “Kyouko to Katsuya no Monogatari,” the story will likely focus on the relationship between Kyouko and Katsuya. She could portray Kyouko as an infamous teenage delinquent, the head of an all-female Bōsōzoku gang called the Red Butterfly Suicide Squad, who develops romantic feelings for her middle school student teacher, Katsuya.
