It’s this weekend that the first season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan will debut on US channel Starz – on StarzPlay in France – and we learn that a season 2 has already been officially ordered.
The future of the Power franchise is undeniably secure. We should find Power Book II: Ghost for season 2 this fall and Power Book IV Force which follows the character of Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) will soon follow since season 1 is in production. Additionally, Power Book V: Influence centering on politician Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) is yet to see the light of day.
Either way, Power Book III: Raising Kanan is very much in the news, and with a pocket renewal, Power fans are going to be served. If you are not familiar with this spin-off developed by Sascha Penn, the plot takes us to the 90s were to continue the initiation of young Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in Power and by Mekai Curtis in this series). He was then a 15-year-old teenager who was learning the street code and working with his mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), a cocaine seller with a growing ring on the streets of New York. The mother/son duo must stay together to get by.
In the cast of this first season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, we find Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis, Omar Epps, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Hailey Kilgore, Joey Bada $$, Quincy Brown, Toby Sandeman, Shanley Caswell, Lovie Simone, and Toby Sandeman. Note that Antonio Ortiz who recurs in season 1 as Shawn “Famous” Figueroa has been promoted to regular for season 2.
