The story repeats itself. This is what we say to the announcement of the departure of one of the main actresses of the reboot of Charmed on The CW.
In the original series, Shannen Doherty, interpreter of Prue Halliwell, left Charmed after three seasons. In this case, it’s Madeleine Mantock who plays the older sister Macy (the equivalent of Prue) who will not be back in the reboot when it returns to The CW for its season 4.
This announcement then comes just before the broadcast of the finale of season 3 of Charmed on The CW, scheduled for Friday, which will be the last episode where Mantock will appear as a regular.
The actress naturally thanked The CW and CBS Studios for their support following her so-called difficult decision to leave the series, as well as the fans. Showrunner Liz Kruger said “respect (the actress’s) decision to quit the show” and that “the door is open for a Macy’s comeback … one way or another!”
It’s also a way of keeping the character’s fate from being revealed until the finale.
Charmed’s Story follows Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), and Macy (Madeleine Mantock), three sisters who discover that they are endowed with magical powers. They together form a powerful trio of witches.
The question that naturally arises now is how the creative team will handle this departure. Will the actress be replaced by another, will Mel and Maggie find out about another sister? Or can another family member take Macy’s place to reform the Charmed Ones? And of course, what does that mean to Harry, their being of light and in love with Macy?
The finale of season 3 should provide some answers, but it will logically be necessary to wait for season 4 for some of the questions, which are scheduled to launch in early 2022.
