Addy, Bronwyn, Cooper, and Nate became the suspects in One of Us Lies. After all, they were the only four in the room the day Simon died. However, as the season progressed, we started to wonder if any of them were responsible for Simon’s death.
Who else would have wanted Simon dead? And who would want to blame one of the other students? We tell you all about the end of Season 1 of One Of Us Is Lying!
ONE OF US IS LYING SEASON 1 END EXPLANATION
Season 1 comes to an end as the police discover the console containing incriminating evidence against Jake in his bedroom and the first murder suspects return to their school routine. But very quickly, each of them receives a threatening message to reveal what they have done.
Towards the end of this winding mystery, we realize that none of the four central suspects killed Simon. Instead, the fatal peanut oil was smuggled in by the victim herself, who did so on a challenge from her childhood friend Jake. However, the original plan was not to let Simon die but to inject him with an Epi-Pen just in time to save his life, while also blaming the four students who accompanied him with attempted murder.
Although this is initially a prank, Jake begins to have other plans when Simon tells him that his girlfriend, Addy, is cheating on him. The jealous boyfriend then decides to kill Simon and trap his “lying and unfaithful girlfriend”. Therefore, even though he agrees to wait outside the holding room and save Simon at the last moment, Jake does the opposite and steals all of the dispensary’s epi-pens, making Simon’s resuscitation impossible.
Jake is therefore indirectly responsible for Simon’s death because he stole the ears of corn that could have saved his life. However, the act of poisoning was carried out by Simon himself, who purposely ingested a water-soluble peanut oil capsule as part of the challenge. Therefore, besides Jake, Simon himself is also partly responsible for his death.
Given the injury, it is highly likely that Jake is dead. After the fateful events, the offending video game console is found in Jake’s room while he is said to have fled.
