The Netflix survival thriller about lethal children’s games was reinvented for an event at the Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates. We tell you all about Squid Game in real life!
HAS THERE BEEN AN ORGANIZED SQUID GAME IN REAL LIFE?
Squid Game has been made a reality by Korea’s Cultural Center Abu Dhabi, but without the murder, thanks to the series’ huge success. The event took place in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday in two different sessions. Two teams of 15 people competed in challenges in the series.
Including the red light and green light game, the Dalgona candy challenge, and the paper flipping games, Marbles, and Ddakji. Although the ad on the website mentions a cash prize, it is unclear how much won, but it is doubtful whether this is the life-changing amount in the Netflix series.
During the event, both teams wore T-shirts with the series logo on them. Event staff, meanwhile, wore pink circular triangle costumes resembling the guards’ suits worn in the Squid Game death games. Unlike the series, the Abu Dhabi event did not involve any violence or bloodshed.
However, this was not the first time that Squid Game had been played in real life. Earlier this month, children from a school in Belgium played the “Red Light Green Light” challenge which resulted in bloodshed as the children beat the children who had lost.
Given the show’s enormous popularity, this certainly won’t be the last time Squid Game will be played in real life. Considering the popularity of the show’s jumpsuits for Halloween 2021, the show’s influence will continue in pop culture. Fortunately, the Abu Dhabi event did not result in violence, which means more imitation games are likely to emerge in the months to come. But don’t expect cash prizes that will change your life.
