The entire series will be available On December 17, 2021, on Disney Plus. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was not well received from the start. The cast of the show was introduced by a devious pilot in a crossover episode of Criminal Minds’ tenth season, which saw the characters in the new series generate interest.
Criminal Minds worked because of its well-written characters, combined with what was (at first) a rather down-to-earth approach to a proceeding seen through the eyes of a specialized law enforcement service that exists and captures the public’s imagination. The BAU is real, even if Criminal Minds has melodramatically pushed the methodology and science behind it over time and seasons.
Despite the negative reviews and even some legitimate concerns about the show’s penchant for chauvinism and stereotyping, the first season of Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders performed reasonably well in terms of viewership – enough for CBS to justify. At the very least, a second season.
The second season’s viewership was on average half that of the first, which certainly contributed to Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders demise, but this level of sharp international press likely contributed significantly.
When the reports of network bubbles became public in May 2017, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was officially decided to cancel, never to travel abroad again. There will be no Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Season 3 on Disney Plus!
