Along with the announcement of the renewal, Vernon Sanders, then TV co-lead for Amazon Studios, expressed his gratitude to the team behind the series and that season six has the end it deserves.
While Amazon Studios has not disclosed the reasons for the series ‘conclusion, the series’ high budget may be a key reason. The high-end graphics and expansive production design of the series demand a high budget, which may have motivated the production company to pull the take after Season 6.
Considering the facts mentioned above, it is unlikely that Season 7 of The Expanse will ever be made. Although the series is over at Amazon, the team behind the series has not given up hope for the future of the series beyond Season 6.
“You know, honestly, that would be more of a question for our studio,” executive producer Naren Shankar replied when questioned about the possibility. They own the property, but I can tell you that there’s a lot more to learn, and I’m sure Ty and Daniel would agree.
Naren Shankar further emphasized in December 2021 that the events of the sixth and final season will raise concerns that will be resolved in the novel series’ Books 7, 8, and 9. As a result, fans can still have optimism.
Because the series finishes with Season 6, which adapts up to Book 6, the creators have the option of adapting the remaining three books in the future. If that’s the case, we can hope that, like Season 4, The Expanse will return for Season 7 on a new platform.
