Rue will do her part to face responsibility next week on Euphoria season 2 episode 3 — but not in the way you might think.
The show is going to get pretty meta, based on some of the first details we’ve seen and the promo for what’s next. One thing we’ve learned in life is that everyone wants to be the hero of their own story, which comes with its own set of expectations. We’re discussing the Zendaya character through the lens of a Spider-Man quote like “with great power comes great responsibility,” which is ironic. Rue, on the other hand, appears to recognize that people want her to be a hero and do the right thing. Staying clean is a part of that.
The irony here is that Rue made it clear that she had no intention of staying clean. She’d never lied to anyone about what she wanted to do with her life in the past. For some people, that isn’t going to be enough.
Rue does mention in the promo that she has a plan — a business opportunity, if you will — as she faces some of these demons. Whatever that is, we’ll have to wait and see.
Overall, we’d say that season 2 episode 2 of Euphoria was a major mental exploration. However, we might see more investigation into people’s actions in the future. Rue is ambitious in her own right, and she wants to channel some of that ambition toward a greater goal. Is she, however, fleeing from something she can’t get away from? With this character, there will be a point of no return sooner or later; all we have to do now is wait and see when it happens.
