IS THE STORY BEHIND BLACK CRAB TRUE?
Contrary to popular belief, Black Crab is not based on a true story. The film is based on Swedish author Jerker Virdborg’s fictional novel “Svart Krabba.” The story is set in an unnamed fictional Scandinavian country torn apart by civil war in the original novel. Likewise, the film adaptation is set in an unknown land and includes the fictitious towns of Tessenoy and Odo.
Although the film is a faithful adaptation of the novel, it alters the source material significantly. For instance, the novel’s protagonist is a man named Karl Edh. In the film, the character is renamed Caroline Edh, and actress Noomi Rapace portrays her.
Another significant distinction between the book and the film is the inclusion of a character named Vanja, who is Caroline’s daughter. Such a character does not appear in the novel. Berg explained that he added this character to the narrative to provide Caroline with external motivation during her journey. To learn whether a sequel will be released, read this.
Black Crab concludes with a fictional story based on Virdborg’s original novel. However, audiences can easily relate to the story due to the strong emotional connection between characters such as Caroline and Vanja. Additionally, the film addresses serious issues that are prevalent in warfare. To learn more about the location of the filming of Black Crab, read this.
