IS THE MINUIT AU PERA PALACE BASED ON A TRUE STORY?
Midnight at the Pera Palace is inspired in part by a true story. In fact, the series is based on Charles King’s book “Midnight at the Pera Palace: The Birth of Modern Istanbul.” The movie adaptation, on the other hand, does not exactly follow the book.
In fact, during World War II, Istanbul found itself once again in the eye of the storm when it allowed Jews fleeing Europe to pass through during the Holocaust. As a result, the socio-political unrest witnessed at Pera Palace and in Istanbul is not far from reality.
Aside from the factors mentioned above, it’s safe to say that Netflix’s Midnight at the Pera Palace isn’t based on any specific person or group of people.
WHERE CAN I FIND THE PERA PALACE?
Although the series’ plot is largely a work of fiction, it is based on true events. The Pera Palace, for example, is a hotel in Beyolu, a district in Istanbul’s European part. It was built in 1892 to serve as a stopover for Orient Express passengers.
Pera Palace is close to major Istanbul attractions such as Taksim Square and Istiklal Avenue. Furthermore, several countries’ consulates are nearby.
