IS THE FREESTYLE BATTLE INSPIRATION BASED ON A TRUE STORY?
Battle: Freestyle isn’t based on a true story, so don’t expect it to be. However, the film’s depiction of freestyle dancing is accurate. Martina Cecelia, who adapted the screenplay from Maja Lunde’s novel, wrote the screenplay, which was directed by Ingvild Sderlind. This movie is a sequel to Battle, a 2018 movie based on the same-named 2014 young adult bestseller.
The movie follows Amalie and her Norwegian team ‘Illicit’ as they compete in the ‘Break the Cypher’ world free dance competition in Paris on their way to stardom. Although the competition is fictional, it is based on real-life underground dance fights in the city.
The world finale of Red Bull Dance Your Style’s first season, as depicted in the movie, took place in Paris in 2019. In addition to this competition, Paris is home to one of the world’s most prestigious street dance schools. Every year, the Juste Debout Paris school hosts its eponymous competition, with the final held in the lovely city. Even though Battle Freestyle is not based on a true story, it is still applicable to fans of freestyle dancing and hip-hop.
