The John Wayne Gacy documentary series focuses on the infamous Gacy, who was convicted of murdering 33 people in the 1970s. Joe Berlinger, a filmmaker, directed this three-part series. Berlinger has already committed numerous crimes. Many of Gacy’s victims were young gay men, and Berlinger wanted to emphasize the link between this and the possibility that he committed his crimes over a long period.
This article will concentrate on the case of Steve Nemmers. So, who is he now, and what is Steve Nemmers becoming?
STEVE NEMMERS: WHO IS HE?
Steve Nemmers was 18 years old, a Waterloo native, and a student at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls in 1967. He was driving to school with two other Waterloo residents at the time.
One of them had to pick up a check at a local KFC restaurant where he worked one night in January 1967. Steve Nemmers first met John Wayne Gacy at this location. John was in charge of the restaurant at the time.
Because his wife and children were out of town, John invited the guys over to his house for a drink and a game of pool, as shown on the show. So the three of them went to John’s in the Waterloo suburbs. Steve Nemmers recalls playing pool with John in his basement there.
The other two guys eventually mentioned a party the next day and suggested that Steve Nemmers stay that night to bring John to Iowa Falls the next day.
On the show, Steve Nemmers admitted that he was hesitant to stay because he didn’t know John, but that it was preferable to drive home with a drunk driver behind the wheel.
Things took a strange turn at that point when John asked Steve Nemmers if he had ever watched porn. He reappeared a few minutes later, this time with a gun pointed at Steve’s head. He then requested that Steve Nemmers remove his pants.
Steve Nemmers was sobbing and pleading with John to stop. In an unusual turn of events, John laughed and requested that Steve pull up his pants.
This happened again when Steve Nemmers went to bed. Later that night, he saw John holding a knife to his throat and threatening the teenager with a sex act.
When Steve Nemmers began to cry and asked him to stop, John burst out laughing again.
After that, Steve Nemmers didn’t sleep again and resolved to meet John in Iowa Falls early in the morning. On the show, he claimed that John threatened to kill him if he told anyone about the previous night.
STEVE NEMMERS IS BECOMING WHAT HE IS TODAY?
Steve Nemmers appears to be doing much better these days. He appears to be in his seventies and lives in Tennessee, where he enjoys spending time with his large family, which includes many grandchildren. He also enjoys golf.
“Steve Nemmers has never spoken before, he’s one of the few survivors of Gacy, and he’s just an amazing storyteller,” Joe said of Steve’s participation in the documentary.
