Ozark season 4 episode 14 served as the series finale, and naturally, this show chose to end on a high note. Or, more precisely, another reminder that this is a cruel world and that sometimes bad people do not receive what they deserve.
To begin, we would point out that much of the final series was a slow, downward spiral.
This show is essentially about creating monsters, and one was finally created when Jonah murdered Mel, who was about to exact revenge on Marty and Wendy.
That did not occur as a result of their own son. Everything that happened in this episode was completely disturbing, as Jonah “went bad” (to borrow a term from another show) and eliminated someone who had primarily been wronged and was seeking vengeance.
Isn’t this the most divisive death in the finale? Most likely not, in light of what happened to Ruth Langmore.
At the very least, Julia Garner received a dignified send-off, correct? Her final words to Camilla before she committed the act were pure brilliance, but this only serves to reinforce the fact that Ozark was never going to let some of our favorite characters walk away into the sunset.
We imagine that many people will be disappointed by the ending, primarily because certain aspects of it were left unresolved.
This was not a show that held all characters accountable for their actions, and we believe that viewers have grown accustomed to that level of payoff as a result of shows like Breaking Bad and Power.
Ozark is not one of those shows, and it was clearly decided to end it in a different, far more chilling manner.
