Following tonight’s major episode, next week’s Survivor 42 episode 8 will officially usher us into the merge! Of course, this means more difficult gameplay and some major plot twists.
Lydia’s elimination tonight deprives Hai of his closest ally in the game, as well as a sea of various advantages and idols. Maryanne didn’t play tonight, and Jonathan was probably reminded of how dangerous he truly is. Tori, on the other hand, may remain the most dangerous target, owing to the fact that not a single player out there trusts her. We believe she would have been voted out if she hadn’t won immunity. Trust is important, and she has the potential to split the merged tribe in half.
So, what did the episode 8 promo show us tonight? Basically, more chaos all around. Even though Tori’s name is mentioned, it doesn’t appear that a single target will be agreed upon. We have a feeling we’re going to get a really exciting post-merge game in general! A lot of people are still solid, at least socially and strategically, and this could lead to a lot of shifting alliances as time goes on. We can’t tell who will win right now, and we like that about the season.
Now comes the big question: can this season succeed despite the overabundance of twists? Unfortunately, for the second season in a row, things have gone into overdrive there. In an ideal world, the players should still have a little more say over where things go than anything else.
