61st Street, an AMC Networks drama series, will premiere in its entirety at SXSW this year, and the network has announced a release date. The upcoming series will premiere on AMC and AMC+ stations across the country on April 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The first episode of the drama series will air simultaneously on AMC and AMC+, with the second episode also available on the streaming service at the same time. New episodes will air on AMC+ and ALL BLK on Sundays, with episodes available a week early on AMC+ and ALLBLK.
Tosin Cole (Doctor Who) plays Moses Johnson, who also appears in the eight-episode series. Johnson is a Black high school athlete from Chicago who is arrested after being accused of being a member of a gang.
Franklin Roberts, a lawyer for Johnson, is played by Emmy-winner Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Lovecraft Country) (The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Lovecraft Country).
To uphold the department’s code of silence, Roberts must navigate the city’s notoriously corrupt court system, which is being used to exact vengeance on officers who died as a result of a botched narcotics bust. In addition, Roberts must navigate the city’s notoriously corrupt judicial system.
61st Street was created by multi-BAFTA-winning writer Peter Moffat, who is no stranger to the crime drama genre — Moffat won BAFTAs for “Best Television Drama Serial” and “Best Craft Writer” for his work on the BBC’s Criminal Justice — and writer J. David Shanks.
Moffat and Shanks previously worked together on the BBC’s Criminal Justice (The Chi). Aunjanue Ellis (When They See Us), Mark O’Brien (Ready or Not), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Andrene Ward-Hammond (Manifest), and Bentley Green (The Last Days of the Elders) are among the series’ other stars (Sweet Magnolias).
