Get Everything you need to know about American Idol season 21!
When will American Idol season 21 premiere on ABC after tonight’s big, epic three-hour finale event? If you have any questions about any of this, we’re happy to answer them in this article.
The first order of business is, of course, to announce that Season 21 will air on the network! That has already been confirmed, so there is no need to be concerned in the coming months.
We’re expecting Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie to return, mainly because they all seem to enjoy doing this job and have great chemistry together. If that changes, we will, of course, notify you.
In terms of a premiere date, it’s fairly easy to predict when the singing competition will return: either February or March of next year. This has been the pattern for American Idol since it debuted on ABC after a decade and a half on Fox.

There’s no compelling reason for them to change this, primarily because this premiere date places Idol on the opposite side of awards season.
We hope that the next season produces great talent, but we also hope that it produces a diverse range of talent. If there’s one easy criticism to level at Season 20, it’s that we’ve seen performers like HunterGirl and Noah Thompson before.
This show desperately needs more artists who can legitimately surprise people, both on the show and in a lot of what they choose to do after the fact. We haven’t had a true breakout star from this world in a very long time!
