IS GODSPEED INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY?
No, the plot of Godspeed is not based on a true story. However, Mehmet Ada ztekin, the film’s director and screenwriter, was heavily influenced by Hakan Evrensel’s book “Yolun Acik Olsun” and based the movie narrative on it.
The Turkish movie deals with real-life issues, the most prominent of which is the trauma suffered by many war veterans. Thus, by focusing on such a broad topic, ztekin was able to bring a realistic story to life.
When a person serves in the army, especially for a long period, he is unavoidably exposed to various types of trauma. Captain Salih, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, is featured prominently in both the book and the movie(PTSD).
The movie is heavily focused on the effects of war on the fragile human psyche. As a result, PTSD is a concept that many of us have heard of and that is very real.
However, this does not change the fact that the plot and characters in Godspeed are not based on true events.
