DISCOVER THE EXPLANATION OF GODZILLA 2’S ENDING ON NETFLIX! SPOILERS!
Godzilla 2 is now on Netflix! Continue reading for an explanation of Godzilla 2’s ending!
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the third installment in Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, even though the Godzilla name has been used in over 30 movies. The first was Godzilla in 2014, followed by Kong: Skull Island in 2017.
The movies are linked not only by the presence of giant monsters but also by the Monarch organization, which studies monsters. Houston Brooks, originally played by Corey Hawkins in Kong: Skull Island, makes a brief appearance in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, now played by Joe Morton.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters expands on the Skull Island post-credits scene, showing ancient civilizations referencing Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah.
It becomes clear that Godzilla has been worshiped for a much longer period than any other deity, and that his rivalry with Ghidorah dates back thousands of years.
Ghidorah is also identified as an alien, which could pave the way for Gigan, another major alien antagonist, to make an appearance in the future. If you have any questions about the end of Godzilla 2, we answer them all!
EXPLAINED GODZILLA 2 ENDING
After finally defeating King Ghidorah, the legendary lizard reclaims his position as the apex predator.
As Godzilla lets out his trademark roar, the other awakened monsters, including an injured Rodan, bow to their king. The status quo has been restored, but there are now more titans than ever before, emphasizing Godzilla’s leadership role.
The newspaper headlines seen during the end credits suggest that Godzilla is keeping his fellow titans on track. Many of them simply return to their home territory, with the big G tracking them via Hollow Earth. Godzilla wishes to protect the planet and all of its creatures, which is beneficial to humans.
Mothra’s ultimate fate is strange: the creature sacrificed itself for Godzilla to resurrect and defeat Ghidorah. The movie wisely avoids detailing what happened.
These two have a symbiotic relationship, and all we know is that the Mothra we saw in the movie died, and she gave her life so Godzilla could live.
Given that the hatching of a larva is the starting motif of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it’s entirely possible (and likely) that a new Mothra will be born in an upcoming sequel. The origin of the new egg could be Godzilla’s chance to enter the picture.

EXPLAINED POST-CREDITS SCENE IN GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS
Ghidorah was definitively killed at the end of Godzilla 2, with Godzilla breathing an atomic breath through his disembodied head to ensure no regeneration this time.
The issue is that ahead ripped from Ghidorah earlier in the movie has been discovered and recovered by the terrorist group responsible for awakening the thing in the first place.
In the Godzilla 2 post-credits scene, Charles Dance’s Colonel Alan Jonah is seen making a deal to obtain the lifeless head. With Ghidorah’s regenerative abilities and the Godzilla universe’s proclivity for creating mecha versions of kaiju, we can be certain that what Jonah is up to will be more than a standard challenge for Godzilla and the other titans.
