HALO EPISODE 8 ENDING EXPLAINED
Master Chief arrives to administer the test to Makee. Miranda begins to discern that the voice on the Covenant recording is Makee’s, indicating that she is a fraud. Miranda, unable to contact anyone, flees to arrive at the testing facility in time and prevents Makee from approaching the artifact. Master Chief and Makee engage in combat to enter a trap laid by Riz and Vannak.
Halsey instructs Cortana to prepare for Master Chief’s release and assumes control of her bodily functions. Cortana betrays Halsey and warns Master Chief not to fall for her trap. Then Cortana disconnects Halsey from the UNSC and vanishes to assist Master Chief.
Without his armor, Master Chief sustains significant damage. Kai escapes the bathroom where Riz and Vanak had locked her up. Makee enters the room containing the artifact and begins speaking in Sangheili immediately.
Kai comes to the Master Chief’s rescue. Miranda enters the room containing the artifact to reveal the truth about Makee.
Parangosky, appalled, declares that Makee will pay the price for her treachery. Makee responds that the UNSC will pay, and she then touches the artifact, causing a massive shockwave that knocks everyone unconscious throughout Reach.
Master Chief and Makee are in the halo field when Makee approaches Master Chief and bids him farewell. Did Makee perform this action for the Covenant? Or did she switch loyalties and do this for herself and Master Chief? It can be either option.
This could be a ruse to make us believe she is acting on behalf of the Covenant.
Or perhaps she is in love with Master Chief and did this to distract the UNSC and the Covenant so she could deal with the artifact on her own.
Perhaps this is what she meant when she said goodbye to Master Chief. There is one episode remaining in Season 1 of “Halo,” and the truth about Makee’s intentions will likely be revealed in that episode.
