Peaky Blinders is a period detective series with period violence, style, clothing, and settings. The series also has a supernatural element, which stems primarily from the characters’ Roma heritage.
Aunt Polly, who sees the future with prophecies, is one of the most important characters in this area. But how did Polly die, and who murdered her?
WHO DID POLLY KILL?
The Irish Republican Army, in a nutshell. But it’s a little complicated, so let’s back up. Peaky Blinders featured the sinister as well as devious fascist villain Oswald Mosley and the Scottish thugs the Billy Boys, led by Jimmy McCavern, in the previous season.
In Season 5 Episode 2, Tommy receives a call from Captain Swing, aka Laura McKee, a high-ranking IRA member, who warns him that Michael is plotting to seize power behind his back with the Billy Boys.
Season 5 concludes with Tommy recruiting his old British Army pal Barney Thompson to assassinate Mosley at a political rally, while Polly’s fiancé, gypsy mobster Aberama Gold, is to assassinate McCavern backstage.
The plot, however, is foiled at the last second by masked assailants who appear out of nowhere and kill Gold and Thompson.
At the start of Peaky Blinders season 6, Tommy receives another phone call from McKee, who informs him that the IRA has put an end to his scheme, cryptically saying, “We have to keep Mr. Mosley alive.” That’s all there is to it. A truck then pulls up in front of his door, dumping three bodies wrapped in death sheets: Gold’s, Thompson’s, and an unknown third.
Tommy opens the unknown body, revealing visions of Polly from the past. His murder, which occurred off-screen, as punishment for his deeds and was intended to bring him to justice.
Polly is given a gypsy burial, her trailer is burned to the ground with her body inside, and Michael swears vengeance, blaming Tommy for her death. Read this for the most recent information on the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.
WHAT CAUSED THE DEATH OF HELEN MCCRORY?
McCrory was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she refused to make the news public. She passed away on April 16, 2021, at her London home. At the time, she was 52 years old.
Condolences poured in from all directions. “Helen was one of the great actresses of her generation,” said Steven Knight, creator of ‘Peaky Blinders.’
Tragically, she was so powerful and in control. This explains why his character died off-screen, as we discussed earlier.
