EXPLAINED ENDING OF UMBRELLA ACADEMY SEASON 3
OBLIVION HOTEL
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 finale focuses on the group’s quest to reset the timeline and the universe after many ups and downs, secrets, and revelations.
Reginald informs them that he has discovered a hidden portal leading to another dimension. He built the Obsidian Hotel around it, working behind the scenes to discover what lies on the other side.
Reginald reveals at the end of Season 3 of Umbrella Academy that this other hotel is actually a machine from another dimension.
This machine is supposed to reset the universe and its timeline, but it requires the proper fuel to function. This fuel is derived from the children who were born mysteriously on October 1, 1989.

This golden substance gave the children their abilities, and Reginald later harvests it from them to power the machine as well as reset the timeline. In fact, that was the sole reason he adopted the children and trained them to hone their abilities.
He desired that they be strong enough to fight the samurai guarding the portal before being sacrificed to power the machine.
When it comes time to activate the machine, he summons the powers of seven people: Klaus, Five, Viktor, Ben, Lila, Diego, and Sloane. He prevents Alison from joining because he only requires seven people.
IS SLOANE STILL ALIVE?
At first glance, it appears that all seven will perish. However, when we look at the new timeline, we see that all of the members of Sparrow Academy, including Luther, come out the other side. But Sloane is nowhere to be found.
While this raises some doubts about her fate, it does not necessarily imply that she is dead.
It’s possible she discovered another way out, or that the new timeline had her living somewhere far away. Her presence alive is indeed confirmed by Klaus, who says she was right behind him.
She could still be trapped in the pocket dimension. If not, another version of her will almost certainly be found in the new universe.
WHAT HAPPENS TO REGINALD?
As they part ways, we learn that Reginald Hargreeves is living his best life in this new timeline. But Alison didn’t murder him? Yes. Reginald died in the portal, but when the timeline was reset, he was given a second chance.
In the Season 1 finale, it was revealed that Reginald’s wife, Abigail Hargreeves, is dead. He came to Earth and devised Project Oblivian to bring her back. Reginald had kept Abigail’s body on the moon long after she had died.
If the timeline is reset, his wife will be alive in this universe. If she’s still alive, he won’t need to release the gold particles into the atmosphere, which means no superpowered children, and he won’t die at Alison’s hands.
