IS DOG INSPIRATION FROM A TRUE STORY?
The dog is inspired in part by a true story. It is inspired in part by director and actor Channing Tatum’s real-life experiences as Briggs. He was in a romantic relationship with his late dog Lulu, after whom the main character is named.
Channing Tatum rescued a Pitbull Catahoula dog from a pound in 2008. Lulu died of cancer in December 2018 after ten years of living with him.
Tatum was inspired to work on this project with a longtime collaborator as well as co-director Reid Carolin, who co-wrote the screenplay with Brett Rodriguez. Briggs as well as Lulu’s road trip is loosely based on one of the actor’s last road trips with his late dog.
So it’s only natural that Tatum’s real-life interactions and observations with dogs aided him in making the film. Aside from that, Dog was most likely inspired by several other incredible true stories about military dogs as well as the love between pets and their owners.
Even though Dog is not entirely based on a true story, it is a realistic tale of loyalty as well as friendship, made more authentic by Lulu, the wonderful lead actress.
