The twins Elias and Lukas, who have been apart for a while, return to live with their mother at the center of the story.
They observe that their mother is hiding her face. She says she had surgery recently. The twins do notice that she takes actions that their mother would never take, though.
She seems to be physically different from their mother as well. Even though Elias and Lukas believe their mother has been replaced by an impostor, they decide to look into it.
