The effort to develop a new limited series centered on the former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has entered the ring facing a high bar because his story hardly suffers from a lack of media exposure.
Despite Trevante Rhodes’ stunning performance, Mike occasionally fails to surpass it by adopting an episodic tone that can occasionally be too irreverent and trying to portray both the boxer and those who have passed through his orbit.
Steven Rogers’ unofficial portrayal of Tyson’s life, Mike, has angered the boxer. It was based on reports of the boxer as well as the biographical spectacle of Tyson using Rhodes to replicate this material as a sort of interstitial glue to hold the production together.
Despite Rhodes’ impressive footwork, the device turns out to be a little too meta for its good, producing uneven drama that, at best, results in a split decision.

WHAT DATE WILL SEASON 2 OF MIKE ON DISNEY PLUS BE RELEASED?
Early in September 2022, the first season was made available. The release of Mike Season 2 on Disney Plus has not yet received any renewal announcements.
Mike is unlikely to return for season 2 given the period covered and the show’s brief runtime.
In any case, Mike hasn’t received much praise from the critics. Rhodes delivered a “stunning performance,” according to several media outlets, but they also think the series ultimately “lost the fight.” The miniseries has faced numerous controversies throughout its run, and this is far from the only one.
When Hulu first announced Mike in February 2021, Tyson expressed his disapproval of the show on social media, complaining that the company had neglected to pay him and accusing “Hulu’s corporate greed” of “misusing Tyson’s life story culturally.”
Later, as the release date approached, the boxer criticized the show on social media once more.
Mike “isn’t meant to glorify” the boxer’s life, according to showrunner Karin Gist, but the objective was to take a very convoluted and divisive character and try to understand what he’s for. has received both praise and scorn while holding fast to their core belief that a person is not a thing.
Although some critics might disagree, it appears Mike never intended to return with a Season 2 on Disney Plus.
