Narco Saints is now on Netflix! Continue reading to find out if Narco-Saints is based on a true story!
Narco-Saints is a series written by Kwon Sung-hui and Yoon Jong-bin for an international audience, not only because it occurs outside of South Korea, but also because it tells the story of a perfectly ordinary man caught up in the drug business of a strange country halfway around the world.
The first episode is not intended to be a dark lament about how In-gu becomes involved in what appears to be Suriname’s biggest business, in which more than half of the country’s 500,000 inhabitants are involved. Read this to find out if season 2 will be released.
Although in In-life Gu isn’t exactly sweet and light, he handles his difficulties with objectivity that almost gives the impression of amusement and detachedness, as if watching his crazy life from above.
This point of view is useful here because In-gu is aware that her story isn’t entirely credible and treats it as such. Is Narco-Saints, then, based on a true story? We tell you everything!
IS THE STORY OF NARCO-SAINTS TRUE?
Yes, Narco-Saints, in fact, is based on a true story. Yoon Jong-bin and Kwon Sung-Hui adapted the series for television, which is based on the life of a real drug lord, Jo Bong-Haeing. Suriname, a South American country, was home to this drug lord.
He was smuggling drugs from South America to European countries with the help of Koreans.
Jo’s early life is unknown, but he was forced to flee South Korea in 1994 after being wanted for fraud.
In the 1990s, Jo is said to have established a drug dealing and supply chain. Jo smuggled nearly 48.5 kilograms of cocaine into European countries between 2004 and 2005. The package is valued at at least 160 billion won ($140 million).

Jo hired several Koreans to act as drug transporters and paid them 4-5 million won per trip. Jo was apprehended by police in Brazil in 2009.
In 2011, he was deported to South Korea as well as charged with smuggling cocaine from South America to Europe via Koreans.
Narco-Saints begins with text claiming that the story is inspired by true events. However, a word of caution follows.
He indicates that the story, while based on true events, has been heavily dramatized and that the names and details of certain characters have been made up. For example, the show’s Jo Bong-Haeing is known as Jeon Yo-hwan.
Finally, as its co-creators and the opening credits claim, Narco-Saints is based on a true story. The directors, on the other hand, most likely added various fictional elements to the story to make it more interesting. Read on for an explanation of the ending.
Nonetheless, the premise of a South Korean businessman infiltrating a dangerous global cartel to bring down its kingpin is grounded in reality through emotional storytelling and dramatic moments.
As a result, the clever blend of fiction and reality will both shock and entertain viewers.
