The Circeo Massacre, one of the most shocking news stories in Italian history, served as the inspiration for the plot. It involved Gianni Guido, Andrea Ghira, and Angelo Izzo torturing Donatella Colasanti and Rosaria Lopez.
The two women, who were each 17 and 19 years old, were kidnapped and sexually assaulted by the three young men. Donatella narrowly avoided dying after pretending to be dead, while Rosaria was fatally injured.
The crime was committed in a father-of-Andrea Ghira villa in Circeo, a posh seaside town about 100 km south of Rome. From September 29 to 30, 1975, it took place.
