This is enough to make us wonder if Ann Dowd’s character is coming to terms with how the handmaids are treated; we can’t say Janine will live forever, or even that Lydia will change, but she’s thinking about it. Is that considered progress?
Meanwhile, June is obviously on the verge of breaking down after witnessing the funeral procession with Serena as well as Hannah.
She is aware that she is being manipulated, and this is a ruse that is still working.
She needs to figure out what she’s going to do next, which could include continuing to attempt to communicate with Gilead from the outside. Will her friendship with Nick be useful in this capacity?
