IS HENRY TEAGUE, AKA PETER, INSPIRED MORE BY A REAL PERSON?
Henry Teague, aka Peter Morely, appears to be based on child molester and rapist Brett Peter Cowan.
Cowan was born on September 18, 1969, in Bunbury, Western Australia, to Peter Cowan, an Australian Army major, and Vietnam veteran.
Later, the family relocated to Brisbane, Queensland, where he grew up and attended Marcellin College alongside his three brothers. Cowan began committing minor offenses in his late teens.
Cowan raped a seven-year-old girl in a Brisbane public park in 1987 and was sentenced to two years in prison in 1989.
He did, however, only serve half of his sentence. Cowan molested a 6-year-old boy in Darwin, Northern Territory, in 1993, and was sentenced to seven years in prison, but was released in 1997. Read on for an explanation of the ending.

Cowan was questioned by police in 2003 regarding the disappearance of Daniel Morcombe, a 13-year-old schoolboy.
Despite his repeated denials of involvement in Morcombe’s kidnapping, he remained a key suspect in the case.
Cowan confessed to killing Morcombe during an undercover operation in August 2011, however, and was arrested on August 13.
From 1999 to 2008, he was married to Tracey Lee Moncrieff. Read this to find out what happened to Brett Peter Cowan, the real killer, today.
Henry Teague in the film bears a striking physical resemblance to Brett Peter Cowan.
He also tells Cowan about his family history and criminal past. Because the film is based on the Daniel Morcombe murder case, Henry Teague is Cowan’s fictional counterpart.
