DISCOVER IF ROGER KAPLAN IS INSPIRED BY A REAL PERSON AND IS THE WATCHER!
The Watcher is now on Netflix! Continue reading to find out if Roger Kaplan is The Watcher!
Ryan Murphy is back with another Netflix series based on a true story, following the success of his Jeffrey Dahmer series. However, there is a slight twist this time.
The Watcher, based on the true story of the Broaddus family, who purchased an expensive home in Westfield, New Jersey, & received a series of threatening letters from someone claiming to be “The Watcher,” takes a slightly different approach to true crime. It’s here where you can find out how much it costs based on the true story.
It’s an odd story. And, despite numerous theories, it has never been resolved.
The series’ approach is to give various theories free rein, resulting in a story that appears utterly far-fetched at first glance, but upon further investigation often turns out to be true, could have been true, or was inspired by something that happened.
Let us now discuss the Roger Kaplan case. Who exactly is Roger Kaplan? Is he The Watcher, and is he influenced by a genuine teacher?

IS ROGER KAPLAN THE MONITOR?
In episode 6, Theodora expresses a strong interest in Roger Kaplan as a potential Watcher.
Theodora visits Trish Kaplan, Roger Kaplan’s ex-wife, whom he abandoned for one of his students, Miko. Trish claims that Roger Kaplan is The Watcher, though her viewpoint is likely biased.
Dean and Nora are also taken to the house where Roger Kaplan is said to have received many letters over the years: Oak Terrace number 55.
The final of these letters becomes increasingly dark and hostile in tone. Roger Kaplan used to play at 657 Boulevard, which was once owned by a friend of his.
He claims he was at the open house that day because a friend had died. It’s here where you can find out what was written in real letters.
Although Roger Kaplan has an obsession with 657 Boulevard, it is much more subdued than that of others, including Dean.
So, of all the suspects, Roger Kaplan appears to be the least likely to be The Watcher.
IS ROGER KAPLAN DREAMED UP BY A REAL PERSON?
The Watcher is based on author Reeves Wiedeman’s 2018 report in The Cut of New York Magazine. On the eve of the Netflix production’s release in 2022, Wiedeman wrote an update.
He speculates on various theories he’s heard over the years, including one involving English professor and author Robert Kaplow. Read on to find out what happened to the Broaddus family today.
Robert Kaplow allegedly told his students that he wrote several letters to a Westfield residence. Robert Kaplow, on the other hand, claimed that 657 Boulevard was not that house.
