The Watcher, a new Netflix horror-thriller series, debuted today. It tells the terrifying tale of a couple who finally get the house of their dreams only to find out through a mysterious letter that they are being watched.
What about this series is the weirdest? It takes its cues from a true story. You can read about how closely it is based on a true story here.
Dean and Nora Brannock are portrayed in the seven-part series by Bobby Cannavale and Naomi Watts.
The Brannock family and their two children move into their dream home in Westfield, New Jersey, but they quickly learn that their new neighborhood isn’t very friendly. Here you can read what was written in the actual letters.
The couple experiences problems with uncooperative neighbors and a real estate agent who makes them feel as though they don’t belong.
Things become even scarier soon after the couple moves in when they get a letter from “The Watcher” or “Le Veilleur” explaining that they have been tasked with keeping watch over the house before its “second come.”
But what happens to the modern real family that Dean and Nora Brannock imagined after reading The Watcher?

WHO IN REAL LIFE ARE DEAN AND NORA BRANNOCK?
Derek and Maria Broaddus, who play Dean and Nora Brannock in the show, purchased their dream home for $1.3 million in 2014, but as the series depicts, The Watcher’s real-life case turned into a nightmare for them.
After receiving the first letters from The Watcher, the real family started to worry about their safety and, in particular, the safety of their kids. Six months after purchasing the home, the couple put it back on the market.
The letters the Broaddus had received, however, discouraged any prospective buyer from finalizing the deal.
The Broaddus relisted 257 Boulevard in the spring of 2016, but they were unable to find a buyer this time.
The Real Family rented the home for several years before managing to sell it in 2019 for $959,000, nearly $400,000 less than what they paid for it initially. Read this to learn what has happened to the house since then.
AFTER THE WATCHER, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE REAL FAMILY TODAY?
The real family of the Watcher is rumored to still be residing in Westfield, New Jersey, the location of their ordeal.
To purchase a second home in Westfield in 2016, the Broaddus took out a loan from family members.
To keep the location secret so that the unidentified Watcher couldn’t track them to their new home, they reportedly used an LLC (limited liability company) to buy the property. Discover what happens to the Watcher today by clicking here.
